Resilience in river ecosystems requires that organisms must persist in the face of highly dynamic hydrological and geomorphological variations. Disturbance events such as floods and droughts are postulated to shape life history traits that support resilience, but river management and conservation would benefit from greater understanding of the emergent effects in communities of river organisms. We unify current knowledge of taxonomic‐, phylogenetic‐, and trait‐based aspects of river communities that might aid the identification and quantification of resilience mechanisms. Temporal variations in river productivity, physical connectivity, and environmental heterogeneity resulting from floods and droughts are highlighted as key characteristics that promote resilience in these dynamic ecosystems. Three community‐wide mechanisms that underlie resilience are (a) partitioning (competition/facilitation) of dynamically varying resources, (b) dispersal, recolonization, and recruitment promoted by connectivity, and (c) functional redundancy in communities promoted by resource heterogeneity and refugia. Along with taxonomic and phylogenetic identity, biological traits related to feeding specialization, dispersal ability, and habitat specialization mediate organism responses to disturbance. Measures of these factors might also enable assessment of the relative contributions of different mechanisms to community resilience. Interactions between abiotic drivers and biotic aspects of resource use, dispersal, and persistence have clear implications for river conservation and management. To support these management needs, we propose a set of taxonomic, phylogenetic, and life‐history trait metrics that might be used to measure resilience mechanisms. By identifying such indicators, our proposed framework can enable targeted management strategies to adapt river ecosystems to global change.  相似文献

Cadmium Selenide thermodynamic formation energies at the molecular and nanoscale range are investigated using density functional theory. The investigation is performed using wurtzoid and diamondoid clusters that represent the wurtzite and zincblende structures at the molecular and nanoscale size range for a cluster number of atoms n ≤ 26. Cd and Se atomic clusters are optimized and used to provide component atomic cluster energies. Although both Cd and Se clusters at the nanoscale have different phases than bulk, the results show that Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy of formation of CdSe are close to their experimental bulk energies of formation within errors of experimental measurements. CdSe wurtzoids generally have higher absolute (more negative) Gibbs free energy of formation than CdSe diamondoids indicating more stable wurtzoid molecules which is also the case at bulk. The absolute Gibbs free energy of wurtzoids is also higher than experimental value (more negative) because of surface effects at the nanoscale. Enthalpy of formation indicates an exothermic reaction of Cd and Se clusters as is the case at bulk. The entropy of formation of all clusters is size-sensitive and converges towards bulk experimental measurements. Both wurtzoids and diamondoids members contain Cd13Se13 cluster which is the most investigated magic CdSe cluster.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to present an extension of the generalised supertwisting algorithm (STA) to the multivariable framework. We begin by introducing an algorithm that may be deemed as a linear, quasicontinuous, or discontinuous multivariable system, depending on the functions that define them. For the class represented by such an algorithm we prove the robust, Lyapunov stability of the origin and characterise the perturbations that preserve its stability. In particular, when its vector field is discontinuous or quasicontinuous our algorithm is endowed with finite‐time stability. Due to its resemblance to the scalar case, we denote such finite‐time stable systems as generalised multivariable STA. Furthermore, the class of finite‐time stable systems comprise the currently available versions of STAs. To finalise, by means of simulation examples, we show that our proposed finite‐time stable algorithms are well suited for signals online differentiation and highlight their dynamical traits.  相似文献

The long-established use of enzymes for food processing and product formulation has resulted in an increased enzyme market compounding to 7.0% annual growth rate. Advancements in molecular biology and recognition that enzymes with specific properties have application for industrial production of infant, baby and functional foods boosted research toward sourcing the genes of microorganisms for enzymes with distinctive properties. In this regard, functional metagenomics for extremozymes has gained attention on the premise that such enzymes can catalyze specific reactions. Hence, metagenomics that can isolate functional genes of unculturable extremophilic microorganisms has expanded attention as a promising tool. We explore the dynamics of a 1-parameter family of continued fraction maps of the unit interval. The family contains as special instances the Gauss continued fraction map and the Fibonacci map. We determine the transfer operators of these dynamical maps and prove that the Denjoy–Minkowski measure is a common invariant measure of the family. We show that their analytic invariant measures obey a common functional equation generalizing Lewis’ functional equation and we find a.c. invariant measures for some members of the family. We also discuss a certain involution of this family which sends the Gauss map to the Fibonacci map relating Riemann's zeta function to the so-called Fibonacci zeta function.  相似文献

铜-配体(L)-三肽组成的三元复合物[Cu(L)M]2+,其中,L表示4′-氯-2,2′:6′,2″-三联吡啶(缩写为4Cl-tpy);M表示酪氨酰-甘氨酰-色氨酸(YGW)及其修饰型三肽(CH3CO-YGW-OCH3,缩写 Ac-YGW-OMe)。使用该复合物,通过碰撞诱导解离 (collision-induced dissociation, CID)产生两种自由基离子 ([YGW]·+和[Ac-YGW-OMe]·+)。采用串联质谱结合密度泛函理论 (density functional theory, DFT)得到气相稳定结构,并研究其气相解离行为。研究结果表明,[YGW]·+和[Ac-YGW-OMe]·+的气相解离行为截然不同,[YGW]·+主要产生[M-CO2-116]+和[M-CO2·+碎片离子;而[Ac-YGW-OMe]·+在气相中主要产生[M-CH3OH]·+碎片离子。推测这两种离子的气相裂解机理分别为:[YGW]·+羧基上的质子重排到多肽骨架中羰基氧上,经历 Cα-C键的断裂产生[M-CO2·+、断裂色氨酸侧链 Cβ-Cγ键产生[M-CO2-116]+离子;[Ac-YGW-OMe]·+则先经历质子重排到酯基氧上,然后经过C-O酯键的断裂形成[M-CH3OH]·+离子。参与重排的质子可能有3个来源:Ac-YGW-OMe中甘氨酸的Cα-H、色氨酸的Cα-H 或Cβ-H,该机理有待进一步验证。本研究将为其他类型多肽及衍生物的结构及气相反应机理研究提供参考。  相似文献

Stem cell therapy is one of the most promising candidate treatments for spinal cord injury. Research has shown optimistic results for this therapy, but clinical limitations remain, including poor viability, engraftment, and differentiation. Here, we isolated novel peripheral nerve-derived stem cells (PNSCs) from adult peripheral nerves with similar characteristics to neural-crest stem cells. These PNSCs expressed neural-crest specific markers and showed multilineage differentiation potential into Schwann cells, neuroglia, neurons, and mesodermal cells. In addition, PNSCs showed therapeutic potential by releasing the neurotrophic factors, including glial cell-line-derived neurotrophic factor, insulin-like growth factor, nerve growth factor, and neurotrophin-3. PNSC abilities were also enhanced by their development into spheroids which secreted neurotrophic factors several times more than non-spheroid PNSCs and expressed several types of extra cellular matrix. These features suggest that the potential for these PNSC spheroids can overcome their limitations. In an animal spinal cord injury (SCI) model, these PNSC spheroids induced functional recovery and neuronal regeneration. These PNSC spheroids also reduced the neuropathic pain which accompanies SCI after remyelination. These PNSC spheroids may represent a new therapeutic approach for patients suffering from SCI.  相似文献

Silicene, a new 2D material has attracted intense research because of the ubiquitous use of silicon in modern technology. However, producing free-standing silicene has proved to be a huge challenge. Until now, silicene could be synthesized only on metal surfaces where it naturally forms strong interactions with the metal substrate that modify its electronic properties. Here, the authors report the first experimental evidence of silicene nanoribbons on an insulating NaCl thin film. This work represents a major breakthrough, for the study of the intrinsic properties of silicene, and by extension to other 2D materials that have so far only been grown on metal surfaces.  相似文献
